Welcome to the official website site of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Tezpur, one of the prestigious educational institutions of Sonitpur ( Assam ). This centre of excellence which was first established in July 1971 as a defence sector school affiliated to CBSE. It is situated 12 Km North of Tezpur town in Army sector. This Vidyalaya has the strength of more than 1450 students & 60 staff on rolls and has all along been striving to achieve academic excellence and development in the total personally of the students. It is a three section school with all the three streams Science, Commerce & Humanities (one section each). It has moulded many Teachers, Scientists, Technocrats, Doctors, Engineers & Administrators who occupy enviable positions in various walks of life.
The Genesis of the KV.With one aim to fulfill the educational demand of the children of arm forces posted under HQ. 4 Corps, the authorities of HQ.4 Corps take up the matter with KVS (HQ), New Delhi and accepted the proposal and KV. No.1, Tezpur was opened in July 1971 at this station up to class V with an enrolment of 105 students. Important Milestones of Growth: The quality education fully equipped with Science and Computer labs, Games and Sports and facilities of CCA. Constructions of new Vidyalaya Building are the main factors of its growth. Gradual year wise expansion in classes and section leading to present status: Since its inception in July 1971 and addition of classes, the first batch approved in AISSE (Class X) in 1977, with the approval of offering Science and Humanities stream the first batch poor admission in the Science class in 1977. The first batch appeared AISSCE (Class XII) in 1979. The KVS was please to offers Commerce stream in the Vidyalaya with the strong demand from the side of the sponsoring authority the first batch took admission in Commerce stream in 1996-97. Details of Previous and New campus: During the year 2003. The Vidyalaya got its attractive permanent Building constructed in the present campus. The old MES building under the possession of the Vidyalaya within the vidyalaya campus was taken back by the Army authority of the station. Facilities available including Games and Sports facilities: Facilities for Indoor Games: Excellent facilities are available for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess, Carom etc. Facilities for Outdoor Games: A magnificent sports field in which Cricket, Basket Ball, Kho-kho, Volley Ball, Kabaddi, Football, Hockey can be played.
VISION & MISSION: The Kendriya Vidyalayas have a four - fold mission, viz., To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education; To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education; To initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Concil of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc. and To develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of "Indianness" among children.

SALIENT FEATURES: Common text-books and bilingual medium of instructions for all Kendriya Vidyalayas. All Kendriya Vidyalayas affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education All Kendriya Vidyalayas are co-educational, composite schools. Sanskrit is taught from class V to IX The quality of teaching is kept reasonably high by an appropriate teacher-pupil ratio. No tuition fee for boys upto Class VIII, girls upto Class XII and SC/ST students and children of KVS employees.
